SPONSOR A TREE operation
Following the violent fire of 14/08/2023 in the town of Saint-André in the Pyrénées Orientales which ravaged 500 hectares, 30 houses and 5 campsites, the Saint-Cyprien Catalane club in partnership with the town hall organized a sale to sponsor the replanting of 1500 trees.
The chosen species: THE PAULOWNIA EMERALD
Very water-efficient, it needs less than 50% water compared to other varieties. It has a very high capacity to absorb CO2.Il is resistant to diseases and insects, it is an accelerator of the water cycle, its root system is powerful and above all it is a forest fire retarder, its self-combustion point is 440° and its growth is fast, about 8 years. It is melliferous, its wood is hard and stable, it forms a barrier to pollen and various pollutions, it produces significant evapotranspiration, hence a lowering of the temperature under the canopy.
On November 30th it was offered for sale at the price of 20€ in the parking lot of the city’s Intermarché, issued with a certificate that will allow buyers to have their names on the trees.
At the same time, pocket ashtrays were distributed to passing smokers, in order to make them aware of the risks of fire in the region but also of the pollution of the Mediterranean by cigarette butts, only a few kilometers away. The ashtrays were made available by Jean MARCHAL of the “challenge for the environment of the LIONS of France”, partner of the action present alongside the club.
